Monday is Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This annual day of recognition, also known as Orange Shirt Day, is a time to honour and remember the survivors of residential schools, while reflecting on the lasting impacts on Indigenous communities.
Here’s what will be open and closed on the weekend and Monday, including municipal services in Toronto, Durham Region, Halton Region, Hamilton, Peel Region, Waterloo Region and York Region.
Banks
- All banks and financial institutions will be closed.
Grocery stores and malls
- Most grocery stores and malls will be operating on regular hours.
Schools
- Ontario schools, universities and colleges will have classes on Monday.
Beer Store and LCBO
- The Beer Store’s hours will not be affected.
- The LCBO will have modified hours with opening delayed two hours until noon.
Federal services
- Canada Post will be closed.
- Passport services will be closed.
- Service Canada will be closed.
- Canada Revenue Agency will be closed.
Municipal services
- All services will be open in Toronto, including city hall, community centres, museums and public libraries.
- In Durham Region, all regional offices will be closed.
- In Halton Region, all community centres will be open. All city offices and libraries will be closed.
- All services in Hamilton, including city hall, community centres, museums and public libraries, will be open.
- In Peel Region, all regional offices will be closed. Offices and non-emergency services will be closed
- In Waterloo Region, all services will be open, including city halls, community centres, museums and public libraries.
- In York Region, all regional offices services will be closed. All Richmond Hill municipal offices will be closed, including libraries and Access Richmond Hill.

Transit
- GO Transit and most regional bus services will operate on a normal schedule.”
